I took a photo of this guy at Spring Brook Farm's Easter egg hunt with the intent of painting the scene. Almost a year later, I decided to attempt it with pastels. I haven't done many "live" subjects in pastel, mostly just landscapes. I wanted to capture the sweetness in this cow's expression, and not get caught up with the details in the background. But I still wanted the viewer to be able to recognize it as Spring Brook Farm (for those that are familiar.) So I only suggested the logo on the delivery truck, and you can see a bit of their country store's green roof. I debated about putting that little yellow tag on his ear...#96. I think it adds something. This has inspired me to do a whole series of farm paintings in pastel. More to come...
